Northgate Managed Services has been named Business of the Year at the 2010 Belfast Telegraph Northern Ireland Business Awards in association with bmi.

The judging panel, chaired by leading Ulster economist John Simpson, was impressed by the Newtownabbey-based company’s consistent growth, innovation and commitment to people development.

Other winners on the night included Patton Fit-Out, South Eastern Regional College, Randox, Lagan Construction, Lightstep and TG Eakin.

The young businessperson of the year was Greg Wilson, founder of Seopa Ltd.

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster, who attended the event last night, said: “Awards such as these recognise the outstanding achievement of businesses, both large and small, throughout Northern Ireland.

“Despite global economic conditions which continue to present challenges, the volume of entries this year, the breadth of sectors from which they are drawn and the overall calibre of submissions can only give encouragement that our companies are on the right path.”

Now in its 10th year, the Belfast Telegraph Business Awards received a record number of entries in each category. New categories this year were Excellence in Technology and Best Small/Medium Business.

Sponsors this year were Invest Northern Ireland, Progressive Building Society, Parcel- Force Worldwide, Made Not Born, HSBC, Rainbow Telecom, YELL and Women in Business.
